In Memory of Sister Paulette Traut
February 3, 1922 – November 30, 2009
Sister Mary Paulette (Mary Kathleen) Traut, daughter of Adam and Maud (Canavan), was born on February 3, 1922, in Dubuque, Iowa. She entered the Sisters of the Presentation in September of 1939 and professed her perpetual vows on June 16, 1945.
She received her BA from Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa, and her MA from Cardinal Stritch College, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her teaching and dramatic arts career, spanning 50 years, took her to St. Columbkille, Dubuque (1942-1945), Mason City, Charles City, Storm Lake, Farley (1962-1964), Key West (1964-1966), Roseville, Sheldon and Waukon, all in Iowa and Oak Lawn and Chicago, Illinois. Her ministries included teaching formal classroom, CCD, ecumenical Bible school, and drama and dance at all elementary and junior high levels. Sister loved the dramatic arts and worked on many school musicals and dance programs. She retired to Mount Loretto in 1992 for community prayer and service and she continued with her hobbies of reading, dance, music, and crossword puzzles.
Sister Paulette said, “I thank everyone who has shared my life in any way. I appreciate them and thank God for them”.
Surviving are nieces, nephews, and the Sisters of the Presentation with whom she shared her life for 70 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Paul, her sisters Dorothy Becker, Virginia Edwards, and Patricia Anderson.
