In Memory of Sister Julie Siggelkov

January 7, 1940 – July 24, 2010

Sister Mary Julie Siggelkov, PBVM, 70, daughter of Edgar and Mildred (Kerns) Siggelkov, was born Madonna Christine Siggelkov, on January 7, 1940 in Fairbank, IA. She entered the Sisters of the Presentation in September 1958 and professed her perpetual vows on August 22, 1966.

She received her BA from Clarke College, Dubuque, IA, and did graduate studies at Rosary College (Dominican University), River Forest, IL. Her elementary school teaching career, spanning 42 years, took her to Charles City, Humboldt, Mason City, Osage, Sheldon, and Waukon, all in Iowa and St. Paul, MN.

She retired to Mt. Loretto in 2005 and served in the Mt. Loretto library. Sister Julie enjoyed music, reading, spending time with family and friends, and prayer and community service. Symbolizing her faith, when asked what insight she would share with others on how to live life, Sister Julie responded, “Live each moment as if God is holding the moment, be joyful and have an attitude of gratitude.”

Surviving are her sister, Paula (Dennis) Farrington, her brother, Fred (LeAnn) Siggelkov, nieces, nephews, and the Sisters of the Presentation with whom she shared her life for 52 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sisters, Maxine Dempsey and Marian Siggelkov.
