In Memory of Joan Montag

November 25, 1927 – October 11, 2022

Joan Laubenthal Montag, age 94 of West Bend, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at the Palo Alto County Hospital. Joan was born on November 25, 1927. One of 10 siblings, Joan grew up in Emmetsburg and graduated from St. Ellen Grade School, Emmetsburg High School and Emmetsburg Community College. As a young woman she worked in her father’s chiropractic office, the local pharmacy and bank. She obtained a teaching certificate and taught in Bode, Iowa, for two years. She married Raphael Montag on June 21, 1948. They resided on the family dairy farm east of West Bend where they raised their family of seven children.

Joan became an associate on September 11, 2000, after connecting with the Presentation Sisters through her sister, Sister Rene Laubenthal. In her letter of commitment, Joan wrote, “Belonging to the Presentation Associate Partnership has been a joy. It’s great to feel support of companions on the journey.”
