In Memory of George Evans

May 26, 1926 – May 23, 2015

Living almost directly across the street from the convent from the time Presentation Sisters first came to St. Dorothy Parish in Chicago, George Evans, his sisters and a nephew have been long time friends. Block parties were great times to get to know the neighbors as extended community. George was a neighbor everyone could count on.

Many Saturday mornings the “Mass group” including the priest, St. Dorothy sisters, Associates Verona Buckner and Alice Hamilton (now deceased), and George, enjoyed breakfast with lively conversations of church and current events keeping all involved.

George, Verona and Alice all three gave generously of their time and energy to the school, children and the sisters. George was faithfully involved helping as a morning and afternoon crossing guard and tutoring children.

When the associate program was initiated in 2000, George, Verona and Alice were naturals to join and were among the first in Chicago. George was a great reader, loved the arts, classical music, opera and had keen wisdom and insights to share with all. George also had great respect and love for the Presentation Sisters.

“During the past few years George’s declining health made it difficult to leave his home for activities. However he was always interested in all that was happening,” comments Sister Lou Cota. “He is missed, but we know that he is doing all he can for each of us as he sits at the table with our other Presentation saints in heaven. May our associate and friend rest in peace!”
