In Memory of Associate Rosie Metzger
September 24, 1932 – July 24, 2024
Rosalla “Rosie” Metzger, age 91, passed away on July 24, 2024, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was a Presentation associate for almost 20 years and an aunt to Lisa Schmidt, a current associate. Rosie was an active member of St. Michael Parish in Whittemore and Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg, both in Iowa.
Born September 24, 1932, to Mary and Adam Laubenthal, Rosie grew up on the family farm near West Bend, Iowa. She married Wilmer Metzger in 1956 and they farmed together west of Whittemore, raising their four children. Rosie’s pride and joy were her eight grandchildren with whom she enjoyed sharing her love of reading, playing cards/games, as well as attending their sporting events.
She was passionate about her profession, serving as a registered nurse, night supervisor, mentor of young nurses and organizer of the first nurses’ collective bargaining union at Palo Alto County Hospital.
Through the years, Rosie served as a role model for continuous learning, exhibited by her love of overcoming new challenges. In her early 60s, she learned to swim. As a strong woman of faith, she believed in the power of endurance, with the love of friends and family by her side.
