In Memory of Associate Mary Standing Bear

Mary Ungs Standing Bear, 75, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on September 27, 2025. Mary was whip smart and had a lifelong heart for others. She earned her bachelor’s degree in social work from Clarke University and carried her compassion into every part of her life. Known for her warmth, wit and resilience, she touched many lives with her humor and strong spirit.

Mary became an associate on July 10, 2012, and became a member of the associate group Branches of the Word. In her application to be an associate, Mary wrote, “The sisters represent peace and spirituality to me. In this modern, hurried world we do not take time to reflect on the uniqueness and precious lives of individuals. I feel my charism is encouragement and listening to people, especially the lonely or overwhelmed.”

A celebration of life service was held at Rivertree Church in Huntsville on October 11, 2025. Friends and family gathered in remembrance and gratitude for Mary’s life.
