Working for Social Justice

Our community journey has always been marked by unwavering faith, dedicated service, and a deep commitment to peace and justice, with special emphasis on serving women and children. We honor the pioneering spirit of our founders and the countless sisters who have walked this path with us, spreading the light of hope and love in the world. Their legacy continues to inspire and guide us in our mission.

The founding members of the Presentation Sisters were Irish immigrants who arrived in the Dubuque Iowa in 1874. These four women, inspired by the vision of Nano Nagle, sought to extend their mission of education and care for the poor in their new homeland.  Their story—our story is one of profound faith, resilience, and a commitment to serving the poor.

As we continue to respond to our Gospel call, our ongoing journey toward advocating for social justice remains central to our mission. We tend the light of hope and transformation through our commitments and actions. Our steadfast passion for empowering women and children stands firm by offering support and resources. Our commitment to the care of creation is clear as we steward our resources and work toward protecting the earth for future generations. We are actively engaged in environmental stewardship, promoting sustainable practices to safeguard our planet. We continue to work to eliminate human trafficking, advocating for the voiceless and providing support to victims. Through educational scholarships, we empower individuals, providing them with the assistance needed for a brighter future. We also support their educational journeys, as they open doors to opportunities in hope of transforming lives and uplifting communities.  Additionally, we believe in an investment strategy that aims to generate social change. We believe that our financial decisions align with our values, as we hope these decisions can make an impact on society.  Addressing these social justice issues and others contributes to our commitment to serving the people of God.

Today, Presentation Sisters and associates continue to uphold our storied history and continue to honor Nano Nagle’s legacy by addressing challenges in our world today. With deep compassion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to women and children, social justice and care of earth we continue to tend the light believing God’s spirit is guiding us along the way.

International Presentation Association

As Presentation Sisters, we work collaboratively with the International Presentation Association (IPA) to support justice issues worldwide. We develop strategies to integrate and actively promote the IPA’s vision and directions for mission into the life and mission of our Dubuque Presentation congregation.
