In Memory of Mary Hoye
May 2, 1919 – August 19, 2015
Presentation Associate Mary Hoye has shared her journey with the Dubuque Presentation community in many ways over the years beginning when Presentation Sisters at St. Mary School in Storm Lake, Iowa, taught her children. Mary’s Presentation connections grew when her daughter, Sister Elena Hoye joined the community in 1964 and her Presentation bond was deepened when she made her first commitment as a Presentation associate on September 23, 2000.
Mary and her husband Tom raised their family of five children with love and devotion. They were all the beneficiaries of her deep faith and compassion as were countless others. Over the years, in addition to her work as a nurse’s aide, cook and administrative assistant, Mary served her church community faithfully as Eucharistic minister, RCIA sponsor and as a member of the Sursum Corda prayer group.
As noted in her obituary, Mary had an infectious smile, a deep-seated competitive streak in a game of cards and a love of her Irish heritage and Catholic faith that was unmatched. Mary loved to travel and the highlight of her travels was her visit to Ireland. Nano is surely among those loved ones who have welcomed Mary into eternity! The Presentation community remembers her with love and gratitude.
