In Memory of Sister Anthony Rottinghaus

August 29, 1925 – May 22, 2014

Sister Anthony Rottinghaus, 88, daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Gudenkauf), was born Frances Helen Rottinghaus, in Seneca, Kansas, on August 29, 1925. She entered the Sisters of the Presentation in June of 1944 and professed her perpetual vows on May 16, 1950.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa. Her Presentation journey, spanning 53 years, took her to Lawler, Ryan, Farley, Elkader, Clare, Algona, Key West, Waukon, and Charles City, all in Iowa; Monticello and St. Paul, Minnesota; and Winner, South Dakota. She ministered as a music teacher, parish liturgist, pastoral minister and liturgy coordinator.

Sister Anthony celebrated her 60th Diamond Jubilee in 2005 and stated, “I thank God for the support of my family, religious community and friends. Truly my vocation has been a pearl of great price.” She enjoyed spending time with her Presentation sisters, and especially in her retirement, with her siblings, Sister Michael (deceased) and Sister Rosanne. Together the three siblings kept the Mount Loretto dining room decorated for the seasons and special celebrations. Enjoying each other and community life made Sister Anthony’s life complete.

Surviving are her sisters, Mary Catherine Clark and Sister Rosanne Rottinghaus, her brothers, Raymond, Joseph and James, and the Sisters of the Presentation with whom she shared her life for 69 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Anthony (Bud) and Raphael and her sisters, Winifred Merfeld, and Sister Michael Rottinghaus.

Memorials may be made to the Sisters of the Presentation, 2360 Carter Road, Dubuque, IA 52001 or online at www.dbqpbvms.org.
