In Memory of Sister Jocile Moes
March 19, 1913 – April 7, 2013
Sister Mary Jocile Moes, 100, daughter of John and Gertrude (Bohlen) was born Lucille Josephine Moes on March 19, 1913. She entered the Sisters of the Presentation in October, 1932 and professed her perpetual vows on August 5, 1938.
She received a bachelor’s degree in English from Loras College and took graduate classes in art at Viterbo College, LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Her Presentation career, spanning 76 years, took her to Whittemore, Danbury, Waukon, Sheldon, Algona, Farley, Charles City, and Humboldt, all in Iowa and St. Columbkille, Dubuque (1939-1945), and Resurrection, Dubuque (1982-1985). Her ministry was teacher for grades 4-8.
Sister Jocile retired to Mount Loretto in 1985, and pursued her hobbies of singing, art, reading, crafts, walking and community service. She celebrated her 80th Jubilee last fall, and in her wisdom stated, “As we grow older, life gets harder, but better. Have an attitude of gratitude. Don’t wait for a better world, make the world better.”
Surviving are nieces and nephews and the Sisters of the Presentation with whom she shared her life for 81 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Arnold, Julien, and Edward, and her sisters Jean, Arlene, Lenore and Kay.
