In Memory of Sister Clarice Kane
April 8, 1917 – July 23, 2012
Sister Mary Clarice Kane, 95, daughter of John and Francis (Fettkether), was born Dorothy Elizabeth Kane on April 8, 1917, in Fairbank, IA. She entered the Sisters of the Presentation in August of 1933 and professed her perpetual vows on July 31, 1939.
She received her BA (Magna cum laude) from Loras College, Dubuque, IA, her MA from the University of St. Louis, and did graduate studies at Briar Cliff in Sioux City, IA, and Catholic University in Washington DC. Her Presentation career which spanned 76 years took her to Algona, Danbury, St. Columbkille in Dubuque (1942-1944, 1957-1959 and 1965-1967), Elkader, Osage, Waukon, Resurrection in Dubuque (1972-1973), Whittemore and Mason City, all in Iowa, Winner, SD, and Oak Lawn, IL. Her ministries included that of teacher and principal.
Sister retired to Mt. Loretto in 1995 and then found time for personal prayer and community service. She enjoyed crocheting and could add a special decorative touch to any setting. She was a wonderful storyteller and loved to recall pleasant memories about students, parents and colleagues. She stated, “I love to share these stories of golden moments which have formed a mosaic of my life.”
Surviving are her brothers, Raymond, and Emmett, nieces, nephews, and the Sisters of the Presentation with whom she shared her life for 79 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Louis, Harold, John (Jack), and Paul and her sisters Beatrice McCloud, Mary Frances (Peg) Robinson, and Sister Mary Eunice (Eileen) Kane, PBVM.
